History has taught us that there are many beautiful cemeteries in the world, worthy of being visited, and this is certainly the case of the Municipal Cemetery of Deia, documented since the beginning of the seventeenth century. Any excursion to the Serra de Tramuntana should not be complete without a visit to its most important places of historical interest, such as the small and beautiful cemetery of Deià.
Together with the monuments, churches and museums in the area, it is undoubtedly one of the most interesting visits for those keen to learn more about the history of the people who lived and worked in the village. Several well-known artists are buried here, mainly painters, musicians and poets.
This romantic hilltop cemetery is situated next to the parish church of San Juan Bautista, overlooking the village, its beautiful surroundings and the Mediterranean. Access is via a steep, cobbled path lined with cypress trees. Among the illustrious men buried in the cemetery are the English writer Robert Graves, and the Mallorcan painters Antoni Gelabert and Antoni Ribas Prats. Definitely one of the cemeteries that should be visited at least once while alive!
