Robert Graves’ house-museum

The village of Deià still bears the mark of British poet and writer Robert Graves (1895-1985), author of “I, Claudius”, and its most famous neighbour. The house where he lived, Ca n’Alluny, is now a museum. It exhibits many personal belongings and retains the atmosphere it had when he was at the height of his creativity.

He was a scholar and researcher of Greek myths, in whose honour the Robert Graves Foundation was created. This is a non-profit public entity set up by the Balearic Government to keep alive the memory of this universal author who lived the last 35 years of his life in Deià.

He was Professor of Poetry at Oxford, a finalist for the Nobel Prize for Literature and the winner of the Queen Elizabeth II Gold Medal for Poetry in 1968.  Undoubtedly one of the great English-language poets of the last century, who found in Deià long-sought peace and artistic inspiration. Robert Graves is buried in the beautiful hilltop graveyard, beside the church of Deià.
